Role Overview

  • Position: Pharmacy Technician – Part-Time, Remote
  • 20 hours per week
  • Support the prior authorization process. Ensure patients receive timely access to medications and services.

Responsibilities

  • Manage Prior Authorizations: Prepare, submit, and track requests for medications, procedures, and equipment per payer requirements.
  • Coordinate Communication: Liaise with healthcare providers, insurance companies, and patients to expedite approvals.
  • Insurance Verification: Confirm eligibility, benefits, and coverage criteria before initiating the PA process.
  • Documentation & Tracking: Maintain accurate records of all PA submissions, approvals, denials, and appeals using EMR or pharmacy systems.
  • Handle Denials & Appeals: Assist with resubmissions and appeals, providing additional clinical information or coordinating peer-to-peer reviews.
  • Compliance: Ensure adherence to HIPAA regulations and payer policies while maintaining patient confidentiality.

Requirements / Qualifications

Must-Have Qualifications

  • Active Pharmacy Technician Certification (CPhT) or applicable state license.
  • 1–3 years of experience in a pharmacy, insurance, or healthcare setting with a focus on prior authorizations.
  • In-depth understanding of insurance plans, formularies, and medical necessity criteria.
  • Proficiency in EHR/EMR systems, pharmacy benefit manager (PBM) platforms, and payer portals.
  • Strong communication, multitasking, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage a 20-hour flexible weekly schedule.
