Job Overview

Reporting to the Companion Animal Technical Lead, this role is responsible for providing specialist veterinary expertise on all aspects of MSD’s companion animal products both in the field and to customers calling the Technical Product Support Team. Emphasis is on field‑based activities, including technical training and in‑field support of the sales team, and developing relations with specialists and key opinion leaders, while implementing the company’s technical strategy.

Responsibilities

  • Customer and Field Sales Team Support (50‑60%): Build our technical reputation in the market, work autonomously with clinics to improve patient outcomes, and provide training and support to practice teams. Collaborate with Regional Sales Managers and Account Managers to build account plans, develop technical programmes, maintain sales team technical knowledge, identify training needs, conduct in‑house technical training, and be a key point of contact for complex technical queries.
  • Technical Product Support: Be available on a daytime‑only rota to respond to companion animal technical queries or complaints, manage technical enquiries from the TPS Team promptly, and enter all cases accurately in Salesforce CRM.
  • Key Opinion Leader (KOL) and Other Key Customer Relationships: Liaise with brand technical leads, develop KOL plans in universities, veterinary practices and institutions, and participate in business meetings locally or internationally. Attend occasional evening, weekend, or overnight meetings as required.

Key Profile

  • UK‑recognised veterinary degree and Member of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (MRCVS) with a valid UK driving licence.
  • Significant experience working within UK Companion Animal First‑Opinion practice.
  • Ability to communicate technical training in an effective and engaging format to varied audiences.
  • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills; fluency in English.
  • Persuasive and able to influence others; strong time‑management, project‑management and organisational skills.
  • Experience briefing and managing relationships with external stakeholders and influencers.
  • Capability to handle confidential issues, and operate effectively at all levels within the company.
  • Energetic, resourceful, a team player, and able to initiate and manage change.

Desirable

  • Post‑graduation qualification in a relevant area of interest.
  • Understanding of the pharmaceutical sales function and commercial acumen.
  • Established network of Key Opinion Leaders.

Location

The role is based in the North of the UK, covering Scotland and the Scottish Borders within reach of the M6‑A74(M) plus or minus the A1(M).
