The Volunteer Role
To support the Charity Shop Manager in running the local Salvation Army Charity shop
Summary of tasks:
Greet customers and help them with their shopping needs in a friendly, welcoming and non-judgmental manner.
Sort and process new donations of clothing, books, furniture and general bric-a-brac.
Iron and price clothes as well as replenishing stock in the shop.
Operate the till and serve customers (optional).
Ensure that the shop and sorting areas are kept clean and tidy
Person Specification
Interest in and sympathy with the aims and objectives of The Salvation Army.
Organised and methodical.
Good customer service skills.
Good team player but be able to work independently.
Able to listen well and take instruction.
Commitment to safeguarding and protecting vulnerable children/adults and a willingness to raise concerns where necessary.
Ability to keep confidences and be sensitive to peoples’ circumstances
Time commitment
The time commitment is 3hrs per week and will be agreed with the Community Programme Coordinator, but we can be flexible to meet your circumstances. Shift pattern 10am-1pm or 1pm-4pm Monday to Saturday.
Training & Support
The Salvation Army provides an induction/basic volunteer training via I-Learn portal or at a training day as well as ongoing training as required. We also offer ‘taster’ sessions to see if our volunteer role is a good fit for your skills, experience and interests
Volunteer expenses
The role is unpaid, but reasonable expenses incurred can be paid with prior agreement of the Community Manager.
