How you’ll play your part
In this role, you will be central to our data transformation journey. You will lead the Data & MI team, own key data platforms, and help move MBFS from a legacy data warehouse environment to a modern Microsoft Azure-based data lake architecture. You will shape how data is governed, managed and used across the business, creating trusted reporting, stronger financial insight and improved decision-making. The role combines people leadership, hands-on BI expertise, data ownership and business partnering. You will bring a strong customer focus, using data to solve real business problems and improve the quality, speed and relevance of insight delivered to Finance and wider MBFS stakeholders. You will also challenge legacy processes, improve data quality and lead the creation of valued, future-ready reporting and analytics.
Main Accountabilities
Lead and develop the Data & MI team, ensuring the team has the right skills, priorities and delivery focus across data governance, quality assurance, analysis, Cognos reporting and Power BI development:
- Manage MI team resources, including:
- Data Quality Assurance
- Data Governance
- Report Modeller & Developer
- Report Developers
- Cognos reporting
- Own and continuously improve the data warehouse and data lake environment, ensuring business-critical reporting platforms remain stable, trusted and aligned to the future data architecture:
- Existing Cognos data warehouse reports, interfaces and statements
- Existing SQL-based data warehouse
- Power BI and Databricks reporting catalogue
- New Microsoft Azure cloud data lake.
- Deliver BI analytics, dashboards and reports that provide high-quality Finance insight, support regulatory and risk reporting commitments, and enable better decision-making across MBFS:
- Migration of reports from the legacy data warehouse to the new data lake
- Creation of a suite of Finance dashboards
- Ensure regulatory and risk reporting commitments are met
- Support reporting delivered by wider business data analysts
- Introduce advanced analytics within MBFS.
- Act as Lead Data Steward, embedding data governance standards, improving data quality, supporting user certification and acting as an escalation point for data issues:
- Provide business expertise, acting as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) with contextual knowledge of the data used to enable key business processes
- Enforce data governance policies created by the Data Governance Committee
- Be accountable for user certification of designated business data usage
- Provide oversight and reporting on data quality
- Acts as an escalation point for Data Stewards
- Collaborates with front-line data stewards to ensure best practices are being followed
- Escalate data issues to the Enterprise Data Steward and Data Governance Committee for resolution.
- Act as Enterprise Data Owner, shaping the MBFS data vision, tracking data business benefits and influencing future tooling and capability decisions:

About you
Technical skills and experience:
- Strong Power BI experience, including dashboard design, report development and Power BI Report Builder.
- Good understanding of data models, schemas and reporting structures.
- Strong DAX capability, including measures, calculations, KPIs and common data entities.
- Working knowledge of Databricks, Azure Data Factory and Microsoft Azure data lakes.
- Strong SQL capability, including queries, stored procedures and integration processes.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
- Experience using Power Automate, Power Pivot, Microsoft Teams, SharePoint and OneDrive to improve operational efficiency.
- Understanding of database management systems and ETL frameworks.
- Strong understanding of BI concepts, best practice and reporting governance.
- Cognos experience would be advantageous but is not essential.
Business skills and behaviours:
- Customer-focused mindset with the ability to create dashboards and insights that solve meaningful business problems.
- Strong communication, negotiation and influencing skills, with the confidence to lead stakeholders through complex data topics.
- Clear understanding of how data quality affects business performance, risk management and decision-making.
- Experience of data quality principles, tools and improvement approaches.
- Experience in business process improvement, quality assurance or continuous improvement.
- Strong understanding of business processes and how data enables operational and financial outcomes.
- Appreciation of data management as a business discipline, not only a technical function.
- Understanding of OLAP, business intelligence technologies and reporting concepts.
- Ability to translate technical data concepts into clear business insight for non-technical audiences.
- Strong working knowledge of available data sources and how they connect across business processes.
- Collaborative working style with the ability to build cooperation across business stakeholders, analysts and technical teams.
