A fantastic opportunity has become available for an engaged and innovative Senior Structural Analysis Engineer working on a variety of complex mechanical and composite structures. Reporting to the Head of Composite and Mechanical Stress you will create and deliver ‘Right First Time’ engineering solutions that make a tangible contribution to the team success. You will work collaboratively as part of a design group, applying your thoughtful and curious nature to a range of stimulating challenges to meet the increasing demand and requirements across a range of disciplines.
Key Responsibilities:
- Delivery of optimum race-car parts and assemblies in collaboration with Design Engineers.
- The structural analysis of car and test rig components/assemblies to the required standards making use of both finite element and hand calculations.
- Close collaboration and teamwork with other engineering departments to achieve car performance and reliability goals and objectives.
- Maintaining accurate documentation through the design process in the form of reports including FE results and supporting calculations.
- Supporting the components and assemblies assigned to you through the various stages of life, from inception and design through lab testing and in-service life.
- Provide regular updates to management on the progress of your assigned projects.
- Help define development projects and follow them up with drive and enthusiasm to ensure delivery of their intent.
- Supporting the race team during occasional race weekends and track-test events.
What we are looking for:
- An engineering degree (2:1 minimum grade) with multiple years experience in a high-performance engineering industry (ideally Motorsport).
- Familiarity with race-car kinematics and dynamics would be a plus.
- Thorough understanding of finite element and hand calculation methods.
- Knowledgeable in fatigue methods, non-linear material behaviour and contact.
- Good demonstrable experience in FEA tools such as Hyperworks and Abaqus with FE-Safe. Optimisation tools, Tosca and Optiassist would also be highly beneficial.
- Knowledge in composite materials and FE modelling using software such as Laminate Tools.
- Communication and collaboration skills needed to thrive in our exceptional, diverse, no-blame environment.
- An ability to communicate clearly, concisely, and confidently with all members of the organisation.
- Ability to work under little supervision and good judgement required to deliver the right information in due time.
- The creative skills required to drive the structural design of parts and assemblies towards maximum performance and reliability.
- Appetite for innovation and the ability to continuously improve our methods and processes in search of outstanding levels of efficiency.
- Knowledge of Python or other scripting languages will be valued.
- Experience of 3DX design is of benefit as well as proficiency in Excel.
