As part of our continued growth, we are expanding our sales operation and are looking for an Internal Business Development Manager (BDM) to join our team. This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in our office-based “virtual branch”, delivering bespoke, relationship-driven support to mortgage intermediaries across the UK.

The Role

As an Internal BDM, you will be responsible for building and nurturing strong relationships with intermediaries, gaining a deep understanding of their businesses, and helping them identify and convert new lending opportunities. You will act as a trusted point of contact, championing Mercantile Trust’s products, service, and values.

Key Responsibilities

  • Proactively contact intermediaries via outbound calls from identified data sources
  • Use effective questioning techniques to establish business mix, behaviours, and goals
  • Complete detailed business fact-finds, ensuring accurate and compliant data capture
  • Manage and engage a panel of intermediaries, supporting enquiries, referrals, and portal usage
  • Build and execute a structured contact strategy to maintain regular engagement with your panel
  • Identify and maximise existing and new business opportunities
  • Educate intermediaries to help them recognise lending opportunities within their day-to-day activities
  • Identify and deliver the appropriate level of service on a case-by-case basis
  • Ensure intermediaries have accurate and up-to-date product information
  • Compliantly support intermediaries throughout the sales process, positioning Mercantile Trust as the buy-to-let and bridging lender of choice
  • Maintain strong knowledge of the mortgage and specialist lending market
  • Project a professional image internally and externally, delivering an excellent customer experience while adhering to company policies and values
  • Participate in one-to-one meetings, coaching, and training, and meet agreed performance objectives
  • Occasionally attend industry events and face-to-face meetings with brokers
  • Participate in social media video content to support brand visibility and broker engagement

What We’re Looking For

  • Experience in a sales-related role within a financial services environment (secured or unsecured), ideally in a broker business
  • Confident communicator with strong telephone-based sales experience
  • Strong relationship-building and opportunity-spotting skills
  • Highly organised with excellent attention to detail
  • Customer-focused, with a strong commitment to service excellence
  • Self-motivated and comfortable managing your own sales pipeline

Why Join Mercantile Trust?

  • Join a growing specialist lender with a relationship-led approach
  • Supportive, collaborative team environment where people enjoy their work
  • Clear performance objectives with ongoing coaching and development
  • Opportunity to build a long-term career in specialist property finance

Benefits

  • Company pension with 8% employer contribution
  • BUPA private medical healthcare
  • 25 days’ annual leave, rising by one day per year for every five years of service (capped at 30 days), plus bank holidays
