The Volunteer Manager is a key member of our Retail management team, working closely with shop management and HR teams. They will be responsible for recruiting, organizing, and coordinating our volunteers and volunteer program—collaborating with shop managers to develop skills, drive recruitment, improve retention, and ensure adequate volunteer coverage in various locations.
Reports to: Retail Development Manager
Direct reports: None currently, but this may change as the role evolves
Working hours and contract: 35 hours per week, five days, on a flexible seven-day rota
Salary: £28,000 – £32,000
Location: Four days in our shops and one day at our Head Office, Mansell Street, Aldgate East
Role Responsibilities:
- Achieve recruitment targets for volunteers to support financial objectives
- Support onboarding of volunteers for retail roles
- Engage volunteers with Fight for Sight’s mission and value their contributions
- Maintain a motivated, well-trained, and engaged volunteer team with excellent communication
- Participate in in-person recruitment events
- Coordinate with Retail HR to deliver online training sessions
- Build relationships with volunteers and shop managers, demonstrating the impact of volunteering
- Maintain accurate records of volunteer activities, ensuring compliance with legal and organizational standards
Person Specification:
Desirable skills, knowledge & experience:
- Successful charity shop volunteer recruitment and retention experience
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Passion for volunteering benefits and understanding of volunteer management challenges
- Experience managing regional volunteer networks
- Strong organizational skills and multitasking ability
- Experience with volunteer management software (desirable)

- Strong communication and presentation skills
