Meraki Talent are delighted to be supporting the appointment of a Payroll Manager for a prominent financial services organisation on a 12-month full-time contract based in Northampton. This role offers the opportunity to play a key leadership role in the delivery and transformation of payroll operations across the UK and Crown Dependencies.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage the UK and Crown Dependency payrolls, ensuring accurate and timely processing, including calculations, deductions, and payments to HMRC and third-party vendors.
- Lead the transition of the Crown Dependency payroll to the EME team, ensuring smooth integration and minimal disruption.
- Deliver all post-payroll activities, including reconciliations, submissions, and compliance with statutory requirements.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders including Control, Compliance, and HR to ensure payroll accuracy and efficiency.
- Maintain and enhance payroll governance, working instruction documentation, and HMRC return calendars.
- Oversee and contribute to payroll-related change initiatives, including global HR transformation and system reengineering projects.
- Ensure the team is prepared for operational change, driving readiness, development, and alignment with new processes and technology.
- Identify and mitigate risk through the implementation of robust control measures and process improvements.
- Serve as a subject matter expert in payroll policy, legislation, and operational efficiency.
- Provide clear and confident leadership, coaching and developing team members and ensuring consistent delivery to a high standard.
Candidate Profile
- Extensive payroll experience at a senior or managerial level, with strong knowledge of UK payroll and statutory reporting.
- Demonstrated success in leading payroll functions across large, complex payrolls, ideally within financial services or regulated environments.
- Experience in managing and coaching payroll teams, and delivering operational objectives through leadership and collaboration.
- Strong understanding of payroll governance, risk controls, and HMRC requirements.
- Proven track record in driving and implementing process improvements and operational change.
- Ability to influence and negotiate at senior stakeholder level.
- Maturity and capability to handle sensitive, challenging, or complex scenarios confidently and constructively.
- Experience contributing to or leading system transformation or payroll integration projects.
