As a Design Engineer, you will report to the Global Engineering and Asset Leader, with day-to-day reporting to the Team Leader. You will play a key role in design engineering activities at the Peterborough facility, as well as supporting global asset design initiatives. You will be naturally curious, keen to understand how systems work, and motivated to identify opportunities for improvement. A service-focused design approach is essential, with an emphasis on delivering smarter, faster, and higher-quality solutions that drive cost efficiency and on-time delivery. You will be flexible and collaborative, willing to support colleagues during busy periods. A strong appreciation of customer needs is essential.
The role involves a mix of office-based work, time on the shop floor, and occasional site visits or customer meetings. As you develop, there will be opportunities to progress towards a Project Engineer role.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop 3D models using SolidWorks or AutoCAD, and produce detailed fabrication drawings
- Support the design and project engineering of mobile water treatment assets, including Build, Own and Operate (BOO) plants and fleet upgrades
- Work closely with the design team to develop and refine engineering designs
- Select appropriate materials and equipment in line with specifications and certification requirements
- Manage deliverables for customer-facing projects
- Use SAP for material master data, inventory, drawings, and bills of materials (BOM)
- Support Environment, Health & Safety (EHS), quality processes, Management of Change (MOC), and HAZOP activities
- Assist in sourcing suppliers and components, including technical evaluation of quotations
- Provide support to manufacturing engineering and drawing management across multiple global sites (including Peterborough, Wuxi, Norfolk, Minnetonka, and Guelph)
- Support commercial engineering, mobile project management teams, and plant operations
- Assist with training and mentoring of interns, new starters, and external engineering support
- Conduct site visits and as-built surveys
Qualifications and Experience:
- Degree qualification (BSc, MEng, or MSc) in Engineering – preferably Mechanical, Chemical, Industrial, Electrical, or Environmental
- Minimum of 2–3 years’ relevant experience, or equivalent industrial placement experience within the water industry
- Experience with SAP & Proficiency in AutoCAD and SolidWorks
