We are recruiting an experienced Principal Mechanical Design Engineer to join an established M&E contractor in North Wales. This is an excellent opportunity for a senior-level Mechanical Design Engineer who wants to remain technically hands-on while taking the next step in their career towards design management. The successful candidate will take a lead role within a small building services design team, providing technical guidance and support to other engineers while remaining actively involved in the delivery of mechanical designs across a range of projects. The Role This is a hands-on technical position combined with responsibility for leading and coordinating a small design team. Responsibilities will include: * Producing detailed mechanical building services designs * Mechanical HVAC and public health services design * Producing and developing designs using Revit and AutoCAD * Carrying out mechanical calculations and equipment selections * Producing technical drawings, specifications and design documentation * Reviewing designs and technical information produced by other engineers * Coordinating mechanical designs with electrical, architectural and structural disciplines * Taking a lead role in allocating and coordinating design workloads * Providing technical guidance and support to junior and intermediate engineers * Mentoring and developing members of the design team * Ensuring designs are practical, coordinated and suitable for installation * Working closely with Contracts Managers, Project Managers and site delivery teams * Liaising with clients, consultants, suppliers and other project stakeholders * Attending design and coordination meetings * Identifying design risks and opportunities for value engineering * Ensuring designs are delivered in accordance with project programmes About You We are looking for an experienced Mechanical Building Services Design Engineer operating at Senior or Principal level. The successful candidate should have: * Strong Mechanical Building Services design experience * Excellent knowledge of mechanical systems and their application within construction projects * Strong hands-on design capability * Proficiency using Revit for mechanical building services design * Proficiency using AutoCAD * Experience producing and coordinating detailed mechanical designs * Ability to review and technically assess the work of other engineers * Strong communication and organisational skills * The confidence to provide technical leadership to a small engineering team * Relevant Mechanical Engineering or Building Services qualifications Experience within an M&E installation contractor would be particularly advantageous, although candidates from a consultancy background will also be considered.
