Our client, a fast-growing engineering consultancy with a strong European presence, is seeking an experienced Principal Design Engineer to join their team. The role can be performed remotely from anywhere in Ireland, but you must have the right to work in the UK.
This is a key hire to support the delivery of data center projects across Europe, with the successful candidate expected to take a lead role in technical delivery, team coordination, and client engagement.
The Role
- Lead mechanical or electrical design work across high-value data center projects
- Manage project delivery from concept through to handover, ensuring technical excellence
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and interface with client stakeholders
- Supervise and mentor junior team members
- Contribute to best practice, innovation, and continuous improvement across the design function
- Ensure all work meets applicable codes, standards, and client expectations
Candidate Profile
- Degree-qualified in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering
- Minimum 7 years\’ experience in building services or mission‑critical environments
- Strong background in consultancy design delivery, ideally including data centers or similar
- Proficient in relevant software (e.g. Revit, Amtech, IES)
- Strong knowledge of UK Building Regulations and European design standards
- Excellent communication, leadership, and project management skills
- Right to work in the UK is essential
- Based in Ireland and open to remote work
- Chartered Engineer status (or working towards it)
- Experience working on European projects
- Familiarity with sustainability standards (e.g. BREEAM, LEED)
