Menzies Distribution are currently looking for an experienced Head of Network Design to join our busy Solutions Department. Reporting to the Head of Transport Optimisation, this role has responsibility for supporting Menzies Distribution Solutions Limited (MDS) in designing, validating and continuously improving the Transport network, and supporting the Head of Solutions team to secure new business and renew existing customer agreements.
The job holder will, through validating the overall Network Design, evaluate new business opportunities and identify and deliver organic growth opportunities with existing customers (additional business or CI projects). The job holder will build and maintain excellent relationships with stakeholders throughout the organisation to develop new and creative solutions for network design. A key part of this role is understanding and working with MDS pricing matrices and tariffs. The Head of Network Design will lead while demonstrating MDS core values and behaviours at all times, ensuring that the highest standards of health and safety are maintained.

Key Duties and Accountabilities
- Lead and influence by demonstrating high standards in Health and Safety and MDS core values.
- Create a framework for Network Design analysis on an agreed timescale – weekly, monthly & quarterly.
- Create a process of implementation for the network design process and manage to the agreed timescales including modelling outputs and stakeholder engagement, commercial opportunities including visibility, vehicle profile requirements and operational opportunities for CI and service improvements.
- Seek opportunities to develop self and others, split between in and out of working hours.
- Provide support to the Head of Solutions Design in maintaining effective customer relationships, developing an understanding of customer requirements and supply chain structures and contributing to service improvements, organic growth initiatives and synergy opportunities.
- Initiate and manage continuous improvement by regularly reviewing and monitoring cost and performance KPIs.
- Challenge and test the solution output, ensure it is fit for purpose and the optimum solution. Conduct feedback and lessons learned sessions and capture missed Commercial opportunities.
Key Experience And Qualifications
- Experienced logistics professional, graduate or with relevant qualifications.
- Broad understanding of logistics and supply chain including previous experience in an operational environment.
- 5+ years direct line management experience.
- Demonstrable experience of building customer solutions, contract negotiation, developing SLAs and supplier management of relevant software.
- Continuous improvement mindset, including experience delivering large CI projects.
Technical Skills And Behavioural Competencies
- Proven problem solving skills with the ability to make data-based decisions.
- Previous experience of optimisation software – CACI, Ortec, Paragon, Class - essential.
- PC literate with excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) - essential.
- Excellent organisational skills including prioritising workloads – essential.
- Demonstratable experience within data management, analysis and manipulation including drawing conclusions from large datasets to explain to internal and external stakeholders.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to forge relationships both internally and externally at all levels.
