The role:

Alongside delivering activity locally, you will lead the programme's Rural Reach and Communications work across the Tees Valley.

You will help the programme reach rural and geographically dispersed communities, develop relationships with existing rural networks, coordinate outreach activities and ensure that people who may experience barriers to accessing services are included.

You will also lead communications activity across the programme, including social media, website content, mailing lists and promotional campaigns. You will work with colleagues and partners to promote activities, develop engaging content and ensure communications are accurate, accessible and consistent with the Tees Valley Combined Authority transport brand.

What you will be doing

You will plan and deliver active travel engagement and behaviour change activities that respond to local needs and help more people become involved in walking, wheeling and cycling.

The role will involve:

  • Building positive relationships with residents, community organisations, schools, businesses, local authorities and active travel champions.
  • Planning inclusive community engagement activities, events and outreach.
  • Developing rural outreach and working with communities that can be harder to reach through traditional services.
  • Leading social media, website and promotional activity across the wider Tees Valley programme.
  • Supporting the recruitment, induction and ongoing involvement of volunteers.Managing project activity and expenditure within agreed budgets.
  • Maintaining accurate participant and activity records and contributing to programme performance reporting.
  • Producing case studies that demonstrate the impact of the programme.
  • Supporting safe delivery through appropriate risk assessment, safeguarding and data protection procedures.

About you

Experience of delivering against funder or commissioner performance targets, local knowledge of Darlington and the Tees Valley, or ride leader or cycle mechanic qualifications would be particularly welcome.

We are looking for someone who enjoys working with people and communities and who can turn ideas into practical, engaging activity.

You will have a relevant degree or equivalent qualification, or at least three years of experience working with community groups.

You will bring experience of communications, social media and campaign delivery, together with an understanding of how to engage rural or geographically dispersed communities.

You will also have experience of supporting volunteers and working effectively with community groups and local organisations.

You should have an understanding of active travel, behaviour change and community engagement, alongside experience of planning and delivering events, activities or workshops.

Strong written and verbal communication skills, good organisation and the ability to manage your own workload are important. You will also need to be confident using Microsoft Office, handling data and working through online platforms.
