The Opportunity

We are seeking an experienced Finance Lead/Finance Controller/Commercial Finance Manager to support a focused turnaround and long-term growth plan for the Group Finance function. This is a hands-on, commercially driven role. We need a confident, decisive finance leader who can build a finance function that consistently delivers and act as a true commercial partner to the CEO and Board. This is not a passive reporting role. It requires curiosity, strong judgement, pace, and the confidence to challenge constructively.

About the Company

This is a multi-entity group operating across the UK and internationally, spanning training, compliance and a growing SaaS platform business. The structure includes UK operations, a Community Interest Company, a Middle East subsidiary, a 60%-owned Indian entity, a property company and a technology business that owns the group’s SaaS IP. In the UK/Republic of Ireland, the business serves around 550 customers.

The finance team comprises four people: a Finance Controller (ACCA), a part-qualified Assistant Management Accountant and two Accounts Assistants. The CEO is commercially driven (sales, marketing and product focused), operates at pace and expects finance to be a true business partner. She requires someone who will deliver and own commercially-balanced financial decisions confidently, challenge constructively, and slow decisions where risk demands it. This is a culture that values directness, accountability and commercial clarity.

The Role

  • Embed the new financial planning and control processes, ensuring they are consistently adopted across the business and deliver measurable value.
  • Own and continuously improve the 13-week rolling cash flow forecast, providing timely visibility of cash, risk and decision points.
  • Embed a disciplined credit control process to reduce debtor days and improve cash conversion.
  • Embed a robust, timely month-end cycle that supports commercial decision-making, not just financial reporting.
  • Be curious to identify problem areas and propose fixes/solutions.
  • Identify opportunities to simplify, automate and standardise financial processes, improving efficiency and reducing manual effort.
  • Support commercial decision-making through pricing, margin analysis and financial insight that protects profitability.
  • Strengthen financial governance, controls and compliance, ensuring finance provides a reliable foundation for business growth.
  • Build a disciplined finance function with clear ownership, consistent processes and dependable delivery.
  • Provide proactive financial leadership that enables faster, better-informed decisions while reducing day-to-day reliance on the CEO.

Key Outcomes

  • Implemented a robust rolling cash forecast.
  • Reduced debtor days and improved working capital.
  • Created clear financial visibility for the Board (cash, sales, risk).
  • Improved month-end effectiveness and reduced CEO time spent on finance.
  • Established sustainable processes the internal team can maintain.
  • Strengthened commercial decision-making discipline.

Essential Experience Required

  • Proven FC / Financial Management / FP&A / Commercial finance experience.
  • Track record of stabilising cash flow and improving working capital.
  • Strong commercial judgement and ability to make risk-based decisions.
  • Experience working with multi-entity structures.
  • Hands-on approach – comfortable operating in detail as well as at board level.
  • Confident in challenging senior stakeholders constructively.
  • Systems/process improvement experience.
  • Basic SQL.
  • Advanced Excel.
  • Power Query.
  • Production of dashboards.

Desirable Experience required

  • Exposure to SaaS or subscription revenue models beneficial.
  • Power BI.
  • Advanced Excel.
  • Building and maintaining pricing models.
  • Master Data management.
