About the Role
A well-established historical College in Chelmsford, looking for an enthusiastic Agricultural Engineering Workshop Technician to join their team.
You'll play a vital role in supporting students studying agricultural engineering, ensuring they have a safe, well-equipped and practical workshop environment in which to develop their skills.
This is a hands-on position ideal for someone from an agricultural engineering, farm machinery, mechanics or workshop background who enjoys working with young people and wants to help develop the next generation of skilled engineers.
No teaching qualification is required. What matters most is your practical experience, enthusiasm and willingness to support students.
Key Responsibilities
- Set up and prepare workshops, equipment and machinery for practical sessions
- Support students during practical workshop activities
- Demonstrate the safe and correct use of tools, machinery and workshop equipment
- Maintain, inspect and organise workshop tools and equipment
- Carry out routine maintenance and minor repairs
- Ensure workshops are clean, safe and fully operational
- Monitor workshop stock, tools, equipment and consumables
- Support lecturers with practical demonstrations and activities
- Help students develop confidence with tools, machinery and engineering techniques
- Promote excellent health & safety practices
- Report faults, maintenance requirements and equipment issues
- Contribute to maintaining a professional and engaging learning environment
About You
We're looking for someone with:
- Practical experience within agricultural engineering, farm machinery, mechanics or a similar workshop environment
- Strong knowledge of tools, machinery and workshop practices
- Good understanding of health & safety
- A practical, hands-on approach
- Good communication skills and the ability to work well with young people
- Patience, enthusiasm and a willingness to help students learn
- The ability to work independently while also being part of a teaching and technical team
- A genuine desire to support and inspire the next generation of agricultural engineers
Teaching experience or a teaching qualification is not required.
