Qualifications

  • Understanding of the developmental needs (physical, emotional, intellectual, social and educational) of young people.
  • Knowledge of child protection issues and procedures, and of social care services available to young people and their families.
  • Ability to work within a team, showing sensitivity and understanding.
  • Ability to motivate self and others to meet time and performance goals.
  • Ability to handle emotional stress and remain flexible.
  • Strong interpersonal skills – can relate well to young people and staff at all levels.

Responsibilities

  • Respond to and meet the identified needs of children/young people as outlined in individual care plans and as agreed with the manager.
  • Work in partnership with young people, their families, social workers and other relevant agencies to meet their needs.
  • Ensure that work with children/young people complies with legislative, procedural and good practice requirements.
  • Prioritise the safety and welfare of young people.
  • Participate in implementing, monitoring and reviewing care, health and education plans, and contribute to planning meetings and reviews as required.
  • Understand and be familiar with all relevant legislation, guidance, policies and procedures related to safeguarding young people.
  • Promote the development of a comfortable physical environment conducive to good social care practice and in line with standards and guidance.

Mowbray House offers six spacious bedrooms, communal rooms and a one‑bedroom cottage. Located in Crook, Mowbray House supports vulnerable people from ages 18 – 65, providing support for learning disabilities and autism. For some, Mowbray could be a forever home; for others, it is about developing independence, self‑confidence and social skills to enable them to move forward and live a more independent life.
