We are working exclusively with a modern, well-equipped practice in Reading that is looking for a Clinical Director who can lead both clinically and culturally. This is not a corporate environment; it is an independent group that genuinely cares about how pets and clients are treated. They want someone who can raise standards, bring structure, and inspire a young team β not just maintain the status quo. The outgoing CD is returning to out-of-hours work, so the role is available due to preference, not performance. The team is stable, and the practice has excellent foundations. What they need now is strength, experience, and vision.
What makes this practice different? The owners are passionate about calm, stress-free visits, genuine empathy, and clinical excellence. They are outspoken about not wanting to be βjust another practice down the road.β You will join a team who are kind to their patients, kind to each other, and genuinely like having fun at work.
You will have full autonomy to shape:
- Clinical standards
- Team development
- Surgical caseload growth
- Client experience and culture
Current Team: 4 Vets | 5 Nurses | 1 VCA | ~4,000 active clients. This is a practice with theatre capacity and patient demand β it just needs leadership to activate it.
The Role:
- 4-day week (30β40 hours, flexible)
- 1 in 4 weekends (Saturday AM)
- No OOH β covered externally
- 15-minute consults
- ~20 consults per vet per day
- ~5 surgeries per day currently β room to increase
This is a hands-on leadership role. You will make things happen β not just fill rota slots.
Who You Are:
- Proven leadership capability
- Strong clinical standards
- Able to mentor, guide, and bring people together
- Confident and respected β but warm, human and approachable
- Ideally with a surgical bias (beyond routine neuters) β not a surgeon-only mindset β they want balance. Medicine matters here.
Salary & Bonus: Β£75,000βΒ£80,000 DOE (ceiling Β£80k), Bonus up to 20% of salary.
Benefits:
- 5 weeks holiday (based on 4-day week)
- Additional 3 charity days
- Private health insurance
- Β£30/month gym contribution
- 2 free Total Wellness Plans for your own pets
- CPD trips abroad
- Quarterly social fund (Β£25 per head)
- Employer pension
- CPD & Certificates Leadership & Management Level 3 programme available
- Certificate support is absolutely offered
