We are looking for a Female Support Worker to join our Community Team in York on a permanent, part-time basis (30 hours). We are looking to grow our team of dedicated, caring and enthusiastic support workers. You will be working with a diverse group of people, each with their own unique abilities and needs. You will be expected to provide an outstanding level of support that will help to ensure the people we support live a happy life. You will have excellent communication skills and be a naturally caring and patient personality.

Typical Responsibilities May Include:

  • Supporting people to live independently: budget management, paying bills, housework, organising appointments and cooking delicious healthy meals.
  • Excellent communication skills and relationship building: supporting the people we support to understand the world around them and promoting positive relationships.
  • Community & social inclusion: supporting individuals to access and participate in their local community and social events to promote life skills and individuality.
  • Personal care: helping people to get ready for the day. This may include prompting the people we support to take their medication and assisting with bathing, showering and using the bathroom. Not all Support Worker roles include high levels of personal care.

Shifts will be spread across mornings, afternoons, evenings, weekends and bank holidays so flexibility is key. Certain services will also have sleep-in shifts or waking night shifts as well. We prepare the rotas at least 4 weeks in advance so you can still plan your personal and social life.

What We're Looking For:

  • A genuine passion for supporting others.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to build meaningful relationships.
  • Flexibility to work various shifts, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • A positive and empathetic attitude towards individuals with learning disabilities.
  • Drivers are preferred since you will need to travel.
  • Experience within the care sector is an advantage but not a necessity as full training will be provided.

Please note: This position does not meet the minimum salary requirements for a Health and Care visa under the UK Skilled Worker route, as set by the Home Office. Therefore, although Mencap is a licensed sponsor, we are unable to offer sponsorship for this role. Applicants must already have the legal right to work in the UK, as we are not able to support new visa applications or sponsorship requests for this vacancy. All roles are subject to an enhanced DBS check and suitable references.
