Overview

Mencap is seeking Part-time (30 hours) and Relief Support Workers to join our team in Horwich BL6. This role requires you to be a driver. As a Support Worker, you\’ll have the opportunity to make a real difference in the lives of individuals with learning disabilities. You will work with a diverse group of people, each with their own abilities and needs. You will be involved in assisting with daily activities, providing emotional support, and playing a vital role in their lives. The house supports 3 individuals (2 male and 1 female) with varying needs. We participate in a range of activities from social clubs and volunteer jobs to physiotherapy-led activities, swimming, gym sessions, weekly bike rides, and outings such as watching Bolton Wanderers, bowling, cinema, garden centres, and bingo. You will provide support with household duties, from cooking and cleaning to helping find cost-effective utilities providers. You may assist with finances, staying connected with family and maintaining friendships, medication administration, medical appointments and reviews, personal care, and general day-to-day living. The house is very active, so the successful candidate will need energy to meet the needs of the people we support. An enhanced DBS will be required for the successful candidate. There is a nightly sleep-in with an enhanced flat-rate payment of £63.70.

All our services are 24-hour care. We prepare the rotas at least four weeks in advance so you can plan your personal and social life!

What we’re looking for

  • A genuine passion for supporting others.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to build meaningful relationships.
  • Flexibility to work various shifts, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • A positive and empathetic attitude towards individuals with learning disabilities.
  • A driver. It is essential to hold a valid UK driving licence and be able and willing to drive manual vehicles owned by the people we support.

  • Part-time: 30 Hours – flexible hours based on availability

Shift times

Days: Between 07:00-23:00. There is also a nightly sleep-in required.
