About the Role
Are you passionate about making a difference for people with a learning disability and/or autism? Do you have lived experience and want to use it to help others learn and grow?
We are especially keen to hear from people with autism who want to use their lived experience to help others learn and improve the way people with autism are supported.
We’re looking for Relief Inclusion Consultants to join our team as Oliver McGowan Co-Trainers. You will play a key role in delivering the Tier 2 Oliver McGowan Training—a nationally recognised programme designed to improve understanding and support for people with learning disabilities and autism in health and social care.
This is a relief role, meaning you’ll work flexibly when training sessions are scheduled. We’ll work with you to find times that suit you best.
What you will do:
As an Inclusion Consultant, you will:
– Share your lived experience to help others understand the challenges and strengths of people with learning disabilities and autism.
– Co-deliver training sessions both in person and online (via Microsoft Teams).
– Support recruitment by helping interview candidates, asking simple questions, and sharing your views on whether someone might be a good fit for a role.
– Contribute to projects such as improving service quality, joining co-production groups, or supporting Mencap’s Belonging Networks.
– Support events, Mencap campaigns, or help teams create videos and posters to promote inclusion and awareness.
– Represent Mencap with professionalism, kindness, and empathy.
You’ll work closely with Inclusion Facilitators, lead trainers, and teams across Mencap to ensure high-quality, impactful training and engagement.
This role involves travel to different training locations in your region. You will need to be able to travel independently. We’ll keep travel to a minimum where possible, and Mencap will cover your travel costs.
What we are looking for:
We welcome applications from people of all backgrounds. You’ll need to:
– Have a learning disability and/or autism and be happy to share your experiences.
– Be confident speaking to groups and sharing your story.
– Be friendly, professional, and welcoming.
– Show Mencap’s values: Kind, Passionate, Positive, Brave, Inclusive.
– Be comfortable using basic IT tools like Microsoft Teams and Outlook.
– Be willing to travel as part of your role.
Experience in public speaking or training is helpful but not essential—we’ll provide full training and support.
Support and training:
We’ll make sure you feel confident and supported in your role. You’ll receive:
– Full training on the Oliver McGowan programme.
– Ongoing coaching and feedback.
– Access to wellbeing support and reasonable adjustments.
How to apply:
You can apply online or send us your CV showing your skills and experience OR create a video, audio or presentation application and send it over to If you are having trouble applying, please call Omar directly on 01733 873840.
Benefits
As well as knowing that what we do is making a positive difference to people’s lives, you will receive fair pay and have access to a wide range of rewards and benefits as one of our employees.
– Flexibility to work the hours you choose
– Discounts and cashback from 3% to 30% at high street shops including major super markets, cinemas, gyms, leisure/theme parks, holidays and much more via Mencap Extras
– Annual leave entitlement based on hours accrued
