Saffron Walden Mencap Society is an organisation based in Saffron Walden who are committed to enriching the lives of people with learning disabilities and their families. We are passionate about providing a diverse range of social clubs, outdoor activities, and community events that promote independence and friendship.

We are seeking a motivated and compassionate individual to join our team as a Project Coordinator. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in ensuring members of our thriving 'GrowAbility' allotment project are supported to engage with nature safely and meaningfully, acting as the "bridge" between horticultural tasks and member wellbeing.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Member Wellbeing: Maintaining a constant overview of members' engagement and comfort during outdoor tasks.
  • Safety & Risk: Conducting "dynamic" site risk assessments and ensuring individual risk assessments for service users are kept up to date.
  • Safeguarding: Acting as the primary on-site point of contact for member dignity and safeguarding concerns.
  • Logistics: Managing attendance registers and coordinating the support of volunteers.
  • Supportive Translation: Translating instructions into accessible tasks to ensure members feel confident in the outdoor environment.

  • Closing Date: Sunday 17th May 2026
  • Hours available: 3.5 hours per week
  • Hours: Weekly sessions on Wednesday mornings, 9:45 am - 1:15 pm
  • Pay: £15.50 per hour

Requirements:

  • Essential experience in supporting people with learning disabilities and/or autism, along with a comfort working outdoors in all weather conditions.
