If so, we might have the perfect opportunity for you as our Property Compliance Officer at Mencap.

Mencap is looking for a dedicated Property Compliance Officer to join our team and play a key role in ensuring our environments are safe, compliant and fit for purpose. You’ll help make sure our residential, retail and office properties meet all relevant legal and regulatory standards, supporting safe spaces for the people we support, as well as our colleagues and volunteers.

This is a part-time (22.5 hours per week), permanent job-share role, with flexible work location options.

Strong communication skills are essential, as you’ll work closely with a wide range of stakeholders across Mencap, as well as external partners, to ensure our properties remain safe and suitable for tenants, staff and volunteers.

  • Ensure properties meet all legal, health & safety, and compliance standards
  • Coordinate reactive and quoted works with contractors and site teams
  • Identify, assess and escalate repair and compliance risks
  • Maintain accurate records of inspections, repairs and certifications
  • Liaise with landlords, housing associations, contractors and internal teams
  • Ensure value for money in repairs and challenge contractors where required
  • Support and deputise for the Property Manager, including stakeholder engagement
  • Prepare compliance and repairs data for reporting purposes
  • Stay up to date with legislation and regulatory changes, advising colleagues accordingly
  • Take responsibility for one or more compliance areas, such as Gas, Legionella, Asbestos, EICRs or Fire Systems

Strong communication skills across telephone, email and face-to-face are required.

Minimum 2 years experience in property repairs and/or compliance is necessary, along with knowledge of building maintenance legislation and procedures. Experience working with housing providers or housing associations is also important.

Strong data analysis and report-writing skills are essential, as well as an understanding of, or willingness to learn about, supporting people with learning disabilities. A flexible, solution-focused and proactive approach is expected, along with a genuine commitment to improving the lives of people with learning disabilities.
