Mencap is seeking a compassionate and dedicated 30-35 hour per week Support Worker for a 2:1 supported living service in Chopwell, West Gateshead. A full driving licence is essential to the role.
Responsibilities
- Support an active young gentleman with a range of daily activities and meaningful engagement.
- Assist with activities such as watching YouTube, exploring maps, and creative tasks (e.g., making crispy cakes).
- Provide patient, attentive, person-centred support to communicate effectively with him, who is non-verbal and communicates via sounds or written notes.
- Support his enjoyment of water, outings to the park, and time on the swings, helping maintain independence.
What We’re Looking For
- A genuine passion for supporting others.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to build meaningful relationships.
- Flexibility to work various shifts, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- A positive and empathetic attitude towards individuals with learning disabilities.
- Must be a driver.
Contract Options
- Part-time: 30 to 35 hours available.
Shift Times
- All our services are 24-hour care. Rotas are prepared at least 4 weeks in advance to help you plan your personal and social life.
- Day shift: 09:00 - 19:00
- Day shift and sleep-in: 09:00 - 23:00 (then sleep in) 07:00 - 09:15
- There is also a sleep-in option with an enhanced flat rate payment of £63.70.
All roles are subject to an enhanced DBS check and suitable references.
