About the Role

We’re looking for people with a learning disability and autistic people to become Expert Co-trainers, delivering The Tier 2 Oliver McGowan Mandatory Training on Learning Disability and Autism. You’ll help co-deliver face-to-face training to Mencap colleagues working in our care services and other teams across Mencap. This training is part of The Tier 2 Oliver McGowan Mandatory Training on Learning Disability and Autism – the Government’s preferred training for health and social care staff that meets requirements under the Health & Care Act. Tier 2 training is designed for people who provide direct care or support to autistic people and people with a learning disability. It’s co-delivered by NHS England approved Lead and Facilitator trainers and people with lived experience – like you.

What You’ll Do

  • Co-deliver engaging training sessions using presentations, videos, and group discussions.
  • Share your lived experience in a way that helps others learn.
  • Travel independently to training venues (within approx. 1 hour from home).
  • Take part in training practice team meetings, and wider Mencap projects like recruitment and co-production.

Becoming an Expert with a Lived Experience

You’ll be supported to work towards becoming an NHS England Tier 2 Expert Co-trainer, which involves:

  • Successfully completing a three-day training course and being assessed to see if you can become an approved co-trainer for delivering the Tier 2 training.
  • Taking part in face-to-face training delivery alongside other trainers.
  • Receiving ongoing support and feedback to help you grow in confidence and skill.

What You Need

  • You must be a person with a learning disability, an autistic person or both.
  • You will have a willingness to share your experiences in front of a group.
  • You will have a passion for helping others learn and improve support.
  • You will be open to learning new skills and receiving feedback.
  • You will be comfortable using Microsoft Teams and Outlook with support.
  • You will be friendly, have a professional attitude and a commitment to Mencap’s values: Kind, Brave, Positive, Inclusive, Passionate.

Support and Flexibility

  • Full training and support to work towards becoming a Tier 2 Expert Co-trainer.
  • Flexible working – we’ll agree hours that suit you.
  • Wellbeing support and regular check-ins.
  • Reasonable travel expenses paid.

When You’ll Work

This is a relief role, which means you won’t have set hours. We’ll talk with you to find out when you’re available and work flexibly around your schedule.
