This is a PRN Seasonal Position covering events such as rodeos, bike races, fairs and public relations events through 10/31/2026. Compensation Range: $18.21 to $24.83 hourly, paid bi-weekly. Position Classification: Non-Exempt.
Position Purpose
Provide education, training, and ongoing support to students and new employees. Transport non‑ambulatory and acute stretcher patients to and from patient’s residences and health care facilities. Deliver exceptional medical care to all patients encountered without judgment, act as their greatest advocate, and ensure the preservation of their rights, privacy, and dignity. The EMS preceptor assumes responsibility for students and provisional employees. In collaboration with other staff members, this individual is responsible for the ongoing assessment, orientation, and teaching of students and provisional employees. The preceptor coordinates all patient care during the orientation period, uses staff resources as needed, and ensures overall quality of care. The preceptor and student provide direct patient care to neonate through geriatric populations. They also serve as a role model, influencer, evaluator, socialization agent, and protector of the orientee. The preceptor works with the orientee as one unit, observing performance and providing guidance.
Essential Functions And Basic Duties
- Render basic life support procedures in a variety of settings consistent with state and local operating protocols.
- Work a variety of shift lengths that may include 12–48 hour shifts, on‑call shifts, and standby or special events.
- Provide accurate oral reports to designated medical personnel.
- Assist in extricating trapped victims.
- Transport sick and injured persons to the appropriate health care facility.
- Read, understand, and converse in English; read road maps and discern street signs and address numbers accurately.
- Use good judgement and remain calm in high‑stress environments with loud noises and flashing lights.
- Lift and place patients on a stretcher, restrain patients appropriately, and lift and move a loaded stretcher into an ambulance while practicing safe lifting procedures.
- Perform airway interventions, vital signs, blood glucose measurement, patient‑specific treatments, monitoring and interventions including CPR, defibrillation, medication administration, and mechanical ventilation per Moffat County EMS Protocols.
- Observe, record, and report patient conditions and reactions to drugs, treatments, and significant incidents to a physician or registered nurse.
- Direct and coordinate patient care with other agency personnel and employees.
- Drive the ambulance to and from scenes in a manner appropriate to dispatch direction, patient condition, and driving laws, ensuring safety.
- Communicate with physicians and other medical personnel via radio or telephone.
- Complete all reports, including patient care records, legibly and accurately by the end of shift or within 24 hours per CDPHE.
- Complete daily assigned chores, including vehicle inspection and Operational IQ.
- Perform all duties safely, courteously, confidentially, and professionally.
- Mentor, train, and encourage staff as needed to help them achieve their potential.
- Maintain response readiness consistent with Moffat County response criteria.
- Use safety and PPE equipment per law and EMS Department policies.
- Participate in required training, monthly meetings, and mandatory skills days.
- Perform other duties as assigned, including occasional weekend work for special events.

- Ensure new employees and students learn operational standards that promote patient rights.
- Anticipate and understand the impact of care on patient outcomes.
- Act as a resource to EMS staff, nurses, and providers regarding patient care.
- Document EMS processes accurately and appropriately.
- Plan and implement patient care, modify plans to meet individual needs, and demonstrate skills to the orientee.
- Complete all shift and call review forms as required by students or new employees.
- Notify EMS Supervisor and Manager of orientee progress and recommend clearance when appropriate.
- Promote cohesive team behavior among peers and provide assistance and guidance.
- Model effective listening skills.
- Take responsibility for problem solving and conflict resolution.
- Demonstrate commitment to professional development through skill development, yearly refresher courses, and CEU’s.
- Attend and participate in preceptor meetings and EMS trainings; actively participate in EMS department meetings.
- Follow the job description of EMT, EMT‑I, or Paramedic, depending on licensing.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

- Assist in Emergency Department triage, patient care and assignments as required up to provider scope.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications Minimum Requirements
- Must be at least 21 years of age.
- Must be able to legally work in the United States.
- Must pass a background check.
- Must pass a drug screen and breath alcohol test (if applicable).
- Must complete employee health meeting.
- Must possess a clean driving record and pass a Motor Vehicle Records Check and meet insurability guidelines.
- Must possess a valid driver’s license.
- Must not have 3 or more violations in 3 years.
- Must not have any of the following violations, regardless of time period: homicide involving a vehicle; using a vehicle to elude an officer; hit and run; manslaughter with a vehicle; felony with a vehicle; false report to police; permitting an unlicensed driver to drive; any two or more preventable accidents in 3 years; any driver convicted of any of the following within the last five years: alcohol or drug related offense, including driving while under the influence.

- High School Diploma or equivalent preferred.

- Valid driver’s license.
- Valid Colorado EMT, AEMT, EMT‑Intermediate, or Paramedic Certificate.
- Valid CPR or BLS certification.

- CEVO4 Driver Training.
- IV Certification (required prior to clearance to independent duty).
Experience
- Previous EMS experience preferred.
- General knowledge of Microsoft Office products.
