The Chartered Institute of Ergonomics and Human Factors (CIEHF) is seeking a Head of Learning & Development to lead the growth of its professional development portfolio, expanding both the reach and impact of its learning programmes while building a sustainable, income-generating function.

This is a pivotal role within a small, collaborative and collegiate team, offering the opportunity to take real ownership of the learning function and shape how the Institute supports the profession into the future.

The role:

  • You will be responsible for growing and evolving CIEHF’s professional learning portfolio, ensuring it meets the needs of individuals and organisations across the sector.
  • At the heart of the role is relationship development, working closely with employers, industry partners and subject matter experts to identify workforce needs and translate these into relevant, high-quality learning solutions aligned to the Institute’s professional competency framework.
  • Alongside this, you’ll provide strategic oversight of professional standards systems, including chartership, course accreditation and CPD, ensuring they operate effectively, maintain quality, and continue to strengthen the profession.
  • Working cross-functionally with internal teams, you will play a central role in expanding the Institute’s learning offer, increasing engagement, and driving commercial growth.

You’ll also:

  • Own and evolve the end-to-end learning portfolio, from concept through to delivery and performance.
  • Drive commercial growth, identifying new opportunities and reactivating existing relationships.
  • Build and strengthen partnerships with employers and industry bodies.
  • Oversee the Learning Management System (LMS) and overall learner journey.
  • Lead and support a Learning Services Manager, while remaining hands-on in a small team environment.
  • Use data and insight to continuously improve programme performance and relevance.

What we’re looking for:

This role requires a blend of strategic thinking, commercial acumen, and relationship-building capability. You’ll likely bring:

  • Experience developing or managing professional learning or workforce development programmes.
  • A strong track record of building and managing external relationships.
  • The ability to identify needs and translate them into scalable learning solutions.
  • Commercial awareness and experience growing or monetising learning products.
  • Confidence owning a full portfolio or programme, not just delivery.
  • Experience with LMS platforms and enhancing learner engagement.
  • A collaborative, hands-on approach.

Why join CIEHF?

  • A genuine opportunity to own and shape a learning function with strategic influence.
  • A role that combines purpose, professional impact, and commercial growth.
  • A collegiate and supportive team culture.
  • The chance to play a key role in strengthening and advancing an entire profession.

Closing date: 10 May. Kindly note that a cover letter will be required as part of your application. We look forward to reviewing your application.
