Chief Executive Officer, Infection Prevention Society (IPS)
The Infection Prevention Society (IPS) is searching for an outstanding Chief Executive Officer to lead the organisation through its next phase of development, growth and impact. Following a period of significant transformation, IPS now has strong governance, modern infrastructure and a committed, high‑performing staff team in place. The new CEO will build on these foundations to secure long‑term financial sustainability, strengthen the Society’s influence and ensure IPS continues to deliver real value for its members and the wider health and care system.
Role Overview
Working closely with the Board of Trustees, President and senior leadership team, you will provide strategic direction, lead and develop a small remote team, and represent IPS as a credible, authoritative voice in infection prevention and control. You will play a central role in diversifying income, developing partnerships and positioning the Society for sustainable growth in a complex and evolving landscape.
Responsibilities
Provide strategic vision and oversight for the Society’s long‑term goals.
Lead, coach and develop a small remote team, fostering a collaborative, values‑led culture.
Represent IPS boldly in stakeholder meetings, conferences and media events.
Drive financial sustainability by diversifying income streams and forging new partnerships.
Ensure the Society’s influence and impact continue to grow across health and care settings.
Qualifications
Strategic, commercially astute leader with senior experience in a membership organisation, charity or professional body.
Strong financial and governance capability, with excellent stakeholder‑management skills.
Collaborative, values‑led leadership style and a proven track record of building high‑performance teams.
Ideally, an understanding of or strong interest in health, care and professional practice; knowledge of infection prevention is not essential.
Work Details
This role is offered on a 0.8 FTE basis (30 hours per week) and is fully remote , with occasional travel across the UK for meetings, events and the annual conference. We are open to discussing flexible working arrangements that support both organisational needs and work–life balance.

IPS is the professional body for infection prevention and control practitioners working across health and care settings. With over 2,100 members in the UK and internationally, IPS supports high‑quality, safe care through education, professional development, collaboration and influence. The Society plays an important role in advancing IPC practice and contributing to patient safety and public health.
