A leading national membership organisation is seeking an experienced senior leader for the newly created role of Director of Member Engagement. The postholder will strengthen relationships with senior stakeholders, enhance regional influence, and ensure a consistent, high‑quality membership experience across England.

The Role

  • Provide strategic leadership for national member engagement, ensuring a coherent, high‑quality and data‑informed experience for all members.
  • Lead a dispersed national team, including regional directors and governance specialists, driving consistency, collaboration and shared standards.
  • Build strong relationships with senior leaders across a wide range of educational organizations, ensuring the membership body remains a trusted and influential partner.
  • Oversee governance services and support for governance professionals, ensuring alignment with the wider membership offer.
  • Strengthen regional presence and influence, including engagement with devolved authorities and key external stakeholders.
  • Drive proactive insight gathering, identifying emerging issues, risks and opportunities affecting members.
  • Contribute to organisational strategy and decision‑making as part of the senior leadership team.

About You

  • Senior leadership experience within a membership body, public policy environment, charity, professional association or comparable stakeholder‑driven setting.
  • Strong credibility and confidence engaging with senior leaders and decision‑makers.
  • Experience leading dispersed teams and delivering consistency across multiple locations.
  • Strategic thinker with strong data literacy and the ability to translate insight into practical action.
  • Skilled relationship‑builder with the ability to navigate complex policy and devolved environments.
  • Commitment to delivering high‑quality services and strengthening member value.
  • A passionate interest in education.
