Our client, a well-respected and reputable engineering internationally recognised membership body is currently looking for a Volunteer Manager to work from their Rugby or London offices on a hybrid basis.

Proven experience in the development and implementation of impactful volunteer engagement strategies is essential. The Volunteer Manager is responsible for leading and continually improving a professional, high-quality, and impactful centralised management function.

Key responsibilities:

  • Lead the Institution’s efforts to ensure world-class engagement and retention of volunteers at all stages in the volunteer cycle - regardless of geography or circumstance - through development of effective and appropriate strategies, and oversight of their implementation.
  • Ensure Institution-wide best practice for an excellent volunteer experience and effective use of volunteers through ongoing provision of expert advice and support.
  • Take a leading role in continuous improvement of volunteer engagement and retention activities and initiatives.
  • Working collaboratively with colleagues and Trustees, provide oversight for implementation of robust policies and practices which ensure effective succession planning.
  • Ensure robust risk management strategies and practices are in place and embedded across all volunteer engagement activities.
  • Provide meaningful reporting on the impact of volunteer engagement for volunteers.
  • Provide oversight for continuous improvement of all volunteer training and development activity, ensuring they are aligned to ED&I ambitions.
  • Provide guidance on best practice in volunteer management and engagement practices across all areas of the Institution.
  • Maintain a clear understanding of volunteer needs through regular evaluation and use appropriate benchmarking.

Person specification:

  • Proven experience in the development and implementation of impactful volunteer engagement strategies.
  • Proven expertise in defining and driving strategies to achieve step changes in engagement.
  • Proven experience forming partnerships and networks with other organisations which bring mutual benefit.
  • High level of proficiency in risk management and mitigation.
  • Line management experience and ability to lead and motivate a team of individuals.
  • Demonstrable experience of delivering and reporting against ambitious targets, KPI’s, budgets and deadlines.
  • High level of IT literacy including common Microsoft Office applications, online conferences, web-meetings, and expertise in membership/customer databases.
  • Proven expertise in ensuring appropriate policies and practices to guarantee compliance with regulatory and legal obligations.
  • Expertise in developing and continuously adapting a dynamic range of volunteer training and competence assessment activities.
