Our client, a well-recognised professional membership body with over 20,000 members worldwide, is currently seeking to appoint an External Affairs Manager.
Key Responsibilities
- The Public Affairs Manager is a new role designed to support the planning and delivery of the Membership Association's outreach to stakeholders of the quality profession and promote the social and commercial value of good quality management.
- This role is key to delivering our mission and strategy by developing relationships with allied quality bodies, industry bodies, and allied professions, and influencing quality elements of industrial and public policy.
- The role underlines core messages of the competitive value of good operational governance, assurance, and improvement for organisations, sectors, and the economy.
Responsibilities
- Planning: Support the management team to plan the external affairs strategy to build our reputation and influence amongst target audiences, including decision-makers in government, employers, trade bodies, educational institutions, allied quality bodies, and professional bodies. Plan relevant elements of our sustainability strategy, especially supporting developing economies.
- Delivery: Manage our external environmental scanning process. Deliver and follow up on the annual Council Meeting with CEO, Board Chair, and Council Chair. Lead our policy and external affairs plans to deliver objectives. Develop and manage external relationships (quality bodies, industry bodies, partner bodies, associate partners, Council stakeholder members). Write compelling content tailored to relevant objectives and stakeholders. Act for the Membership Association at relevant industry, professional, and quality infrastructure events and forums. Provide briefing materials for our staff and volunteers involved in external representation. Commission research in support of external affairs plans as required.
- Monitoring: Advise CEO and senior management team on external environmental factors relevant to the Membership Association, quality management, and the quality profession, and identify opportunities and recommend responses. Monitor and report on progress with external affairs and objectives, lessons learned, and recommend future plans.

- Proven track record of building and managing stakeholder networks across government, education, and industry.
- A strong collaborator with a team-oriented, low ego, and flexible approach, capable of working and solving problems with a broad range of individuals.
- Ideally, well-connected and credible, able to build and strengthen strategic relationships with our policy and public affairs network.
