Part‑Time Policy Officer

Salary: ÂŁ40,489 Pro Rata plus a generous benefits package
This leading professional membership body, based in Central London with over 19,000 members, is recruiting a Part‑Time Policy Officer. If you are a Policy Officer, Advisor or Executive with experience in advocacy, research, writing, stakeholder engagement and influencing government or regulatory policy within a membership or trade association environment, we would love to hear from you. The role offers flexible working for students, parents, carers, freelancers and professionals returning to work.
The Role
Research and develop the Association’s policy positions, lead lobbying activities, coordinate the Scottish Branch activities and contribute to campaigns.
Key Responsibilities
- Research and draft policy statements, consultation responses and website content
- Act as main point of contact on relevant policy issues at UK, Scotland, and international level
- Respond to policy enquiries from members, stakeholders and public
- Provide secretariat for single‑issue working groups and the Association’s Scottish Branch
- Contribute to campaign strategies, advise on key policy recommendations and manage media and digital coordination
- Work closely with the Policy and Public Affairs Manager on lobbying programme and stakeholder events
- Encourage member engagement via website and communication tools
- Brief Officers and colleagues for ministerial, committee, and media engagements
- Draft and update parliamentary briefings, letters and other materials
- Build strategic relationships with stakeholders for collaborative campaign work
- Carry out any other duties consistent with the role as required
Person Specification
- Excellent policy skills – research, analysis and strategic thinking
- Ability to assimilate complex information and weigh up competing arguments
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Good organisational and political judgement, diplomacy and relationship management skills
- Experience in public affairs or broader communications campaigning for policy change
- Experience of working with committees within a membership organisation (desirable)
- Experience of working within the not‑for‑profit/charitable sector (desirable)
- Knowledge of UK and/or devolved parliamentary processes (desirable)
- Ability to work with minimum supervision
