Professional Membership Organisation

Home-Based (with occasional UK travel)

Basic Salary: £26,851 per annum

Our client, a respected professional membership organisation, is seeking a proactive and dynamic Membership Officer to join their Membership Engagement team.

The role is home-based with occasional travel across the UK for events and member engagement activity.

If you have experience in membership administration, engagement—particularly within professional bodies, not-for-profits, or associations—we would love to hear from you.

The Role of Membership Officer

You will play a pivotal role in engaging with members, coordinating activities, and promoting the full value of membership benefits. You’ll support membership retention and growth, assist with onboarding new members, and act as the first point of contact for various membership-related queries.

Key Responsibilities

Act as the main contact for prospective, new, and existing members, providing excellent customer service.

Process membership applications and renewals, and support onboarding of new members.

Coordinate and deliver member engagement events (both online and in-person), including study tours, roundtables, welcome events, and webinars.

Support and liaise with volunteer group leaders and champions (special interest groups, regional groups, research leaders).

Maintain membership databases and ensure GDPR compliance.

Create and manage content for member newsletters, the website, and social media.

Coordinate and support the delivery of the annual awards programme.

Promote membership at relevant external events and exhibitions.

Work collaboratively across teams and with volunteer working groups to enhance the member experience.

About You

Essential Skills & Experience:

Outstanding written and verbal communication skills.

Experience of coordinating events or member-facing programmes.

Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail.

Proficient in using IT and communications tools (e.g. Microsoft Office, Teams, Zoom, MailChimp).

Strong customer service orientation and a collaborative working style.

Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.

Comfortable working remotely and independently with the ability to travel within the UK occasionally.

Desirable:

Experience working within a membership organisation, professional body, or not-for-profit.

Understanding of membership recruitment, retention, or volunteer management.

Familiarity with website content management and social media scheduling platforms.
