Home-Based with Regular UK Travel

Permanent | Full-Time (35 hours per week)

Our client is a respected professional membership organisation with a public-interest remit and a growing national profile. They are seeking a Director of Professional Standards to lead the development, implementation and oversight of professional standards, accreditation frameworks and quality assurance activities across their profession.

This is a senior leadership role offering the opportunity to shape professional standards, influence national policy and work closely with regulators, education providers, industry stakeholders and governance bodies.

The Role

Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, the Director of Professional Standards will be responsible for ensuring the organisation’s professional standards, registration pathways and accreditation activities remain robust, credible and aligned with best practice.

The role will lead a specialist team responsible for professional registration, accreditation, assessment and quality assurance activities, while providing strategic advice to the Executive Team, Board and key external stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the development and maintenance of professional competency frameworks, standards and codes of conduct.
  • Oversee accreditation, assessment and quality assurance processes to ensure consistency, integrity and public confidence.
  • Develop policies and procedures supporting professional registration and recognition.
  • Ensure effective governance, compliance and enforcement of professional standards.
  • Provide strategic leadership on professionalisation, accreditation and qualification recognition.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with regulators, government bodies, education providers and industry stakeholders.
  • Lead and develop a high-performing professional standards team.
  • Support committees, advisory groups and governance structures, ensuring effective stakeholder engagement.
  • Contribute to organisational strategy and long-term growth objectives.

About You

We are seeking an experienced senior leader with:

  • Significant experience within a professional body, chartered institute, membership organisation, regulatory body or similar public-interest organisation.
  • Expertise in professional standards, accreditation, assessment, quality assurance or professional registration.
  • Experience developing competency frameworks, professional pathways and governance frameworks.
  • Strong understanding of accreditation, qualifications, education or professional recognition systems.
  • Experience engaging with senior stakeholders, regulators, boards and committees.
  • Excellent leadership, communication and influencing skills.
  • Strong strategic thinking and policy development capability.
  • The ability to balance operational delivery with long-term organisational objectives.
