A leading international membership organisation is seeking an experienced and commercially minded Head of Learning to join on a maternity cover basis, leading a high-profile learning and professional development function.
Reporting directly to the Chief Executive and operating as part of the Senior Leadership Team, this role offers the opportunity to shape and deliver a global learning strategy for a diverse, highly engaged membership. You will take ownership of a professional training portfolio, ensuring it remains relevant, high quality, and financially sustainable, while supporting wider organisational growth and strategic objectives.
This is a senior, hands-on leadership role, combining strategy, stakeholder engagement, and revenue generation.
The role
As Head of Learning, you will lead the Learning function, managing internal capability alongside an extended network of external contributors. You will oversee the design, development, and delivery of public and bespoke training programmes, ensuring they meet member needs, industry standards, and commercial targets.
Working closely with senior colleagues and cross-functional teams, you will help position the organisation as a trusted learning and development partner, driving engagement, reputation, and income.
Key focus areas
- Shaping and delivering a learning strategy aligned with organisational objectives
- Leading and developing the Learning team and external faculty
- Ensuring learning programmes meet agreed financial and sales targets
- Engaging directly with members to understand evolving L&D needs
- Overseeing course development to ensure relevance, quality, and impact
- Managing delivery of the annual public course programme
- Identifying new revenue opportunities through learning initiatives, partnerships, and sponsorship
- Maintaining quality assurance, evaluation processes, and delegate experience
- Supporting marketing activity, including campaigns, course launches, and content
- Building strong internal and external relationships to grow the learning offer
The role includes occasional UK and international travel.
About you
You will bring senior-level experience in learning, training, or professional education, ideally within a membership, professional services, or specialist industry environment. You are commercially aware, comfortable operating at leadership level, and able to balance strategic oversight with operational delivery.
You are likely to demonstrate:
- A strong track record in developing and delivering professional training programmes
- Experience managing budgets, revenue targets, and performance
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Confidence working with CRM and learning management systems
- Strong organisational skills and attention to detail
- A proactive, solutions-focused, and collaborative approach
- Experience within infrastructure, project finance, or a global membership organisation is advantageous but not essential.
