Purpose of the Job
We are seeking two Lawyers to join our team and are keen to hear from people with experience in any (but not all!) of the following areas of expertise:
- Planning and/or planning enforcement
- Licensing
- Environmental health
- Contracts
- Procurement
- Projects
- Property
- Litigation (criminal and/or civil) of any type
- Local government
Every day is different in the Legal Team at Melton Borough Council. We get involved with projects and work at all stages and across all sectors of the Council – from helping Council tenants to buy their homes to prosecuting global companies for food hygiene offences, advising on planning application to negotiating multi-million pound contracts.
We have a clear vision; “Helping People and Shaping Places” – you will be providing legal support to teams across the Council overcoming challenges and hurdles, ensuring that things are done right.
About You
Ideally, we are looking for someone with post qualification experience, but if you are newly qualified with a hunger to progress in this exciting and evolving sector we want to hear from you and have a career graded path to support you through your progression.
You will have the autonomy to manage your own caseload, providing accurate, comprehensive and timely legal advice supported by your colleagues and manager.

The role is based in our modern offices in the centre of Melton Mowbray, very close to the Railway Station and with free onsite parking.
