We are recruiting for a medical receptionist to join our friendly and busy team. This role provides reception and administrative support to the whole practice. Customer service experience and excellent IT skills are essential. A knowledge of primary care and the IT system (Systm One) would be an advantage but not essential as full training is provided. Good written and oral communication skills are essential as well as good time management and organisational skills to prioritise your workload, along with an understanding of, and commitment to, patient confidentiality.

Main duties of the job:

  • Ensure an effective and efficient reception service is provided to patients and any other visitors to the practice.
  • Acknowledge a patient's arrival at the desk within 2/3 minutes of arriving.
  • Deal with all general enquiries, explain procedures and make new and follow-up appointments.
  • Communicate test results using taught skills and ensuring accuracy.
  • Receive and make telephone calls as required. Phones must be answered promptly.
  • Enter requests for home visits onto the home visit sessions ensuring careful recording of all relevant details and where necessary refer to Duty Doctor.
  • Action repeat prescription requests and ensure that they are ready for collection by the patient within 48 hours.

Patient list size of approximately 10,000 situated in Lockwood. We are a friendly and busy team providing primary care services.

Job responsibilities:

  • Receive, assist and direct patients in accessing the appropriate service or healthcare professional in a courteous, efficient and effective way.
  • Provide general assistance to the practice team and project a positive and friendly image to patients and other visitors, either in person or via the telephone.
  • Keep your working environment clean, tidy and free from clutter at all times.
  • Participate on a daily basis in task management and ensure that tasks are kept up to date at all times.
  • Advise patients of relevant charges for private services, accept payment and issue receipts.
  • Retrieve and re-file records as required, ensuring strict alphabetical order is adhered to.
  • Open up premises at the start of the day when first to arrive, de-activate alarm and make all necessary preparations to receive patients.
  • Ensure that all new patients are registered onto the computer system promptly and accurately.
