The predicted salary is between 36000 - 60000 £ per year.

This is a brand-new role for an experienced Health Care Assistant to work both in the practice and to be part of a home visiting team visiting housebound patients and those in care homes. The successful applicant should have a clean driving licence and access to a car. Mileage will be paid.

Main duties of the job:

  • Taking blood samples (phlebotomy)
  • Taking blood pressure
  • Performing ECGs
  • Delivering NHS Health Checks and helping with Diabetic checks
  • Undertaking basic wound dressings
  • Supporting and carrying out diabetic checks/NHS Health checks

About us:

We have a list size of 17,000 and growing. Personal Medical Services are provided by four GP partners, four Salaried GPs, GP Retainer, GP Trainees, three practice nurses, a pharmacist, three health care assistants, a strong administrative team and a capable reception team able to support them. We are a high QOF achieving practice, rated 'Good' by CQC. We use EMIS Web and Docman 10. We encourage and support continued personal development, training and education.

Job responsibilities:

  • Phlebotomy duties.
  • To take and, where appropriate, despatch laboratory specimens including blood, urine, swabs and other diagnostic tests as required by GPs.
  • Making sure they are ready for collection by the designated collection time, or alternatively storing them in the fridge for next day collection.
  • Setting up the ECG machine to take ECGs and making sure that they have been analysed by a GP.
  • Carrying out blood pressure checks.
  • To support the nursing team in - Diabetic clinics, CHD clinics, Healthy eating and weight management, Flu clinics, Coil and Implant clinics.
  • To undertake basic wound care and suture and clip removal, assisting the nurses.
  • To undertake NHS Health checks.
  • To administer flu and B12 injections having been adequately trained.
  • To ensure that fridge temperatures are regularly monitored.
  • To maintain high standards of tidiness, hygiene and safety in the use of all equipment and areas of work, in line with the Practice Health and Safety policy, Infection Control Policy as well as all other Practice policies and procedures.
  • To undertake any additional duties as may from time to time be deemed necessary, including working across sites.
  • To liaise with and communicate effectively with other members of the Primary Health Care Team.
  • To attend courses and study days as required or thought necessary to maintain high standards and to record these as part of continuing professional development.
  • To assist the home visiting team visiting patients that are housebound and in care homes.

As specified by the Partners in accordance with training and experience. The job description may be reviewed and altered at periodic intervals following consultation with the post holder.

Experience in Health Care Assistant in General Practice setting.
