The predicted salary is between 12 - 16 £ per hour.

As a Catering Assistant your overall role is to assist in the unit as directed by the Catering Manager ensuring a successful catering operation on a daily basis. The responsibilities are shared within the team and include:

  • Preparing food
  • Serving customers
  • Cleaning duties
  • Storing all utensils and crockery in the correct areas
  • Maintaining the efficient running of the kitchen
  • Using kitchen equipment e.g. dishwashing machine

Maintain high standards and ensure all kitchen surfaces (including walls and floors) and equipment are kept clean to minimise the risk of accidents and maintain high standards of hygiene.

Key duties include:

  • Basic food preparation and simple cooking
  • Serving meals and ensuring correct portion control
  • Providing polite and friendly customer service
  • Operating a till where required (cash and/or cashless systems)
  • Cleaning the kitchen, surrounding areas, and equipment
  • General kitchen duties (washing up, wiping tables, etc.)
  • Preparing the dining area for service
  • Using equipment as directed by the Catering Manager
  • Making sure food hygiene, allergen, health & safety rules are followed at all times
  • Following existing and new working practices and procedures
  • Taking part in unit sales promotions and promoting healthy eating
  • Following policies and procedures, including safeguarding in a school environment
  • Taking part in training and development
  • Supporting the Catering Manager to make sure all daily tasks are completed

This is currently a 30-hour temporary role. Over time, it could lead to either a permanent 30-hour role, or a permanent 20-hour role. If the role reduces to 20 hours, at least 8 weeks' notice will be given. If the role remains at 30 hours and becomes permanent, this would be discussed around mid-June, before any changes take effect. Please note: this will depend on staffing requirements at that time, which are not yet fully confirmed. We will always keep you updated and talk things through properly.

Pay: £12.21 per hour. Term-time role with equated pay, meaning pay is spread evenly across the year so you receive a monthly wage, including school holidays.
