Hours: Full‑time, 174 hours per month

Sleep‑in shifts: 23:00-07:00 on a 3‑week rolling rota

Role Overview:

As a Residential Childcare Worker, you will play a key role in supporting children and young people living within residential care settings. You will help create a warm, stable, and nurturing home environment while ensuring their safety, emotional well‑being, and developmental progress. Working as part of a dedicated team, you will build positive relationships, implement individual care plans, and support children through daily routines, activities, and life‑skills development.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide day‑to‑day care and emotional support to children and young people in a residential setting.
  • Build trusting, positive relationships that promote security and belonging.
  • Implement personalised care plans and work collaboratively with colleagues and external professionals.
  • Create a stimulating and nurturing environment through structured activities, outings, and recreational opportunities.
  • Support daily routines including meals, personal care, education, and leisure.
  • Record observations, incidents, and progress accurately and contribute to assessments.
  • Promote safeguarding, conduct risk assessments, and maintain a safe environment.
  • Encourage the development of social skills, emotional regulation, and positive behaviour.
  • Participate in team meetings, reflective practice, and ongoing professional development.
  • Attend mandatory training to enhance skills and knowledge in residential childcare.

Person Specification:

Essential:

  • Working towards or willing to complete QCF Level 3 within the regulatory 2‑year timeframe.
  • Experience supporting children or young people (residential or childcare setting preferred).
  • Understanding of child development, attachment, and trauma‑informed practice.
  • Ability to engage with children from diverse backgrounds with empathy and resilience.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Flexibility to work shifts, including evenings, weekends, and public holidays.
  • Basic knowledge of safeguarding legislation and residential childcare regulations.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a team.
  • Strong organisational and time‑management skills.

Desirable:

  • QCF Level 3 qualification already achieved.
  • Full UK driving licence (may be required for some roles).
