Role Overview: As a Residential Childcare Worker, you will play a key role in supporting children and young people living within residential care settings. You will help create a warm, stable, and nurturing home environment while ensuring their safety, emotional well-being, and developmental progress. Working as part of a dedicated team, you will build positive relationships, implement individual care plans, and support children through daily routines, activities, and life-skills development.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide day-to-day care and emotional support to children and young people in a residential setting.
- Build trusting, positive relationships that promote security and belonging.
- Implement personalised care plans and work collaboratively with colleagues and external professionals.
- Create a stimulating and nurturing environment through structured activities, outings, and recreational opportunities.
- Support daily routines including meals, personal care, education, and leisure.
- Record observations, incidents, and progress accurately and contribute to assessments.
- Promote safeguarding, conduct risk assessments, and maintain a safe environment.
- Encourage the development of social skills, emotional regulation, and positive behaviour.
- Participate in team meetings, reflective practice, and ongoing professional development.
- Attend mandatory training to enhance skills and knowledge in residential childcare.
Person Specification:
- Essential:
- Working towards or willing to complete QCF Level 3 within the regulatory 2-year timeframe.
- Experience supporting children or young people (residential or childcare setting preferred).
- Understanding of child development, attachment, and trauma-informed practice.
- Ability to engage with children from diverse backgrounds with empathy and resilience.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Flexibility to work shifts, including evenings, weekends, and public holidays.
- Basic knowledge of safeguarding legislation and residential childcare regulations.
- Ability to work collaboratively within a team.
- Strong organisational and time-management skills.
- QCF Level 3 qualification already achieved.
- Full UK driving licence (may be required for some roles).
