We’re looking for a product-minded Senior Backend Engineer to join our team and lead the development of reliable, high-performance infrastructure powering cutting-edge AI and blockchain applications. You’ll work primarily in Java to build scalable services and APIs that run seamlessly in production on AWS, supporting real-time and data-intensive workloads. You should be as comfortable improving architecture and observability as you are shipping new capabilities behind feature flags and iterating quickly with product and engineering partners. You’ve built and scaled backend systems that serve millions of users, and you know how to design for performance, reliability, security, and developer velocity at scale. You thrive in cross-functional environments and bring a deep appreciation for quality, usability (for both end users and internal teams), and operational excellence. You have drive, hunger, intellectual rigor. You are an owner. This is a remote position. We are primarily looking for candidates based on the East Coast of the US or within Central European Time (CET ±2 hours) to ensure team overlap.
You will:
- Build and maintain distributed backend services using Java and related technologies (e.g. SpringBoot, Gradle)
- Own feature development from design to deployment, including architecture, implementation, and production readiness
- Design high-performance APIs and services for real-time and data-intensive workloads
- Proactively improve architecture, frameworks, tooling, code standards, automation, and engineering processes
- Collaborate closely with product management, DevOps, and engineering peers to bring features to life
- Optimize performance, scalability, reliability, and observability across the backend stack
- Use AI as a core accelerant to development velocity and quality
- Mentor team members and help shape the future of the engineering organization, with a clear path toward a management role
You have:
- 8+ years of experience designing, implementing, and testing Java code
- Extensive hands-on experience implementing and scaling distributed SOA systems
- Experience designing highly available and observable distributed services
- Strong judgement balancing multiple competing product priorities vs. engineering investments
- Tools and skills: Postgresql, AWS, long-running Java processes (e.g. web/ SpringBoot, Gradle, Redis, and NoSQL)
- Experience leading and mentoring junior Software Engineers
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills
Benefits and perks:
We’re excited to offer comprehensive and competitive benefits including Medical, Dental, Vision. We offer a 401(k) with several investment options for pre-tax retirement savings.
Culture: While we are remote-friendly, our office is in the SF Bay Area. If you’re located nearby, you’re welcome (and encouraged) to work in-person a few days per week. If you’re outside the SF Bay Area, you’ll work fully remote and should be available during hours that overlap with the team.
