We are seeking a high‑performing, passionate and dedicated Year 1 Classroom Teacher to join our team. This position is a full‑time 1.0FTE fixed‑term parental leave position, commencing in Term 3, on Monday 24 August 2026, until the end of 2026 with the possibility this position may be extended into 2027.

Role Overview: St Joseph’s utilise evidence‑informed teaching methods, including explicit instruction, high‑impact teaching strategies and a structured literacy framework (the science of reading and writing). The successful applicant should be willing to embrace this vision of teaching and learning and be committed to ongoing professional development, aligned with our school priorities and direction.
The successful applicant will:
- Teach a Year 1 class within a highly collaborative junior school team
- Deliver high‑quality instruction and explicit teaching practices grounded in the Science of Learning and the Science of Reading
- Implement Structured Literacy approaches, including Multisensory Structured Language (MSL) practices
- Work closely with learning leaders and colleagues in Professional Learning Teams to analyse student data and plan targeted instruction
- Contribute positively to the vibrant life of the school community
Key Responsibilities and Selection Criteria:
- Uphold and actively promote the Catholic ethos of the school, demonstrating a commitment to Gospel values and the mission of Catholic education.
- Create and maintain a safe, inclusive, supportive learning environment that promotes student wellbeing, positive behaviour, and a strong sense of belonging.
- Demonstrate a strong commitment to child safety, including compliance with the school's Child Safe Policy, Code of Conduct, and responsibilities relating to the safety, care, and wellbeing of students.
- Deliver engaging, meaningful, and impactful learning experiences aligned with the Victorian Curriculum.
- Demonstrate a commitment to evidence-informed practice, including intellectual preparation, the effective use of student data to inform planning, impact teaching and learning, track student progress, and provide targeted support to maximise student growth and achievement.
- Apply a sound understanding of the Melbourne Archdiocese Catholic Schools (MACS) Vision for Instruction and Vision for Engagement, using effective pedagogy to support personalised, differentiated, and evidence-based learning.
- Demonstrate knowledge of the OCHRE Learning Design Framework for Literacy and Numeracy and effectively implement Religious Education in accordance with Catholic teachings and traditions.
- Commit to collaborative planning with colleagues and learning leaders, contributing positively to professional dialogue, curriculum development, and continuous school improvement.
