We’re looking for a Founding Engineer to help build and scale the core platform of a regulated fintech product. This is a high‑trust, high‑impact role for someone who enjoys ownership, understands production systems, and wants to grow with the company. You’ll work closely with the CTO to design, build, and operate a secure, scalable API‑driven backend. From day one, you’ll have real responsibility for production systems and technical direction, with the opportunity to shape architecture, standards, and future hires as the company grows. This role will evolve significantly over time— from hands‑on delivery today to broader technical leadership as the team expands.
Responsibilities
- Design, build, and maintain backend services using Node.js
- Develop and maintain API‑first systems
- Work with PostgreSQL, including schema design, migrations, and performance tuning
- Own production systems: monitoring, incident response, root‑cause analysis
- Debug live issues calmly and methodically
- Implement secure authentication and authorization patterns
- Contribute to CI/CD using GitHub and GitHub Actions
- Work within a regulated / compliance‑aware environment (fintech, financial services, or similar)
- Collaborate on architecture decisions and technical roadmap
- Improve engineering standards, documentation, and processes as the company scales
Required Experience
- Strong commercial experience with Node.js backend development
- Solid experience with PostgreSQL
- Proven experience building and maintaining production APIs
- Comfortable working with GitHub and GitHub Actions for CI/CD
- Experience supporting live systems and resolving production incidents
- Understanding of security, data protection, and operational risk
- Experience in fintech or other regulated environments (ideal but not strictly required)
