We are looking for a skilled and proactive Licensed BREEAM Assessor to join our multidisciplinary engineering consultancy. The successful candidate will hold current BREEAM Assessor licences for New Construction and Refurbishment and Fit‑Out (Refit) schemes and will also be a qualified BREEAM Accredited Professional (AP). Working within our building services engineering team, you will play a key role in delivering BREEAM certification, providing sustainability design advice, and carrying out Whole Life Carbon (WLC) and Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) studies for a diverse portfolio of projects, across a variety of sectors.

Primary Responsibilities

  • BREEAM Assessment and Certification
    • Manage and deliver BREEAM New Construction and Refurbishment and Fit‑Out assessments from concept through to post‑construction stages.
    • Coordinate evidence gathering, liaising with clients, design teams, and contractors to ensure compliance with BREEAM criteria.
    • Advise on practical sustainability strategies to achieve desired BREEAM ratings within cost and programme constraints.
    • Lead BREEAM pre‑assessment and progress workshops, and prepare submissions to BRE for certification.
  • BREEAM Accredited Professional (AP) Services
    • Act as the BREEAM AP on key engineering and multidisciplinary design projects, ensuring sustainability is embedded from concept design through detailed engineering.
    • Provide sustainability and environmental design input, advising project managers and engineers on opportunities to improve building performance.
    • Facilitate sustainability charrettes and design review sessions to support clients’ environmental goals and net‑zero targets.
  • Whole Life Carbon (WLC) and Life Cycle Assessment (LCA)
    • Undertake Whole Life Carbon and embodied carbon assessments in line with RICS Professional Statement, LETI, and UKGBC frameworks.
    • Carry out Life Cycle Assessments (LCA) using recognised tools such as OneClick LCA, eTool, or IMPACT‑compliant software.
    • Work closely with building services, structural, and civil engineers to integrate carbon reduction strategies into design solutions.
    • Produce clear and concise carbon reports with actionable recommendations.
  • Sustainability Reporting and Advisory
    • Contribute to wider sustainability and ESG advisory services, including circular economy assessments, material efficiency studies, and net‑zero strategies.
    • Support the integration of sustainability metrics within engineering workflows and digital design processes.
    • Stay abreast of updates to BREEAM, carbon methodologies, and evolving UK and EU sustainability policy.

Key Skills/Experience

  • Licensed BREEAM Assessor for New Construction and Refurbishment and Fit‑Out (current BRE licence essential).
  • Qualified BREEAM Accredited Professional (AP).
  • Proven experience delivering BREEAM assessments within a consultancy or engineering environment.
  • Strong knowledge of UK building regulations, environmental standards, and certification systems.
  • Demonstrated experience with Whole Life Carbon (WLC) and Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) methodologies.
  • Competence using tools such as OneClick LCA, eTool, or similar carbon modelling software.
  • Degree in Environmental Engineering, Sustainability, Building Services Engineering, or a related field.
  • Excellent communication, coordination, and technical reporting skills.

Key Skills

  • Familiarity with LEED, WELL, or Ceequal certification.
  • Understanding of energy modelling and building performance simulation.
  • Membership of a relevant professional institution (e.g., CIBSE, IEMA, RICS).
  • Experience supporting net‑zero carbon roadmaps or ESG strategy development.
