Salary: £28,000 - £30,000 per annum + 20% shift premium

Shifts: Full-time, site-based, alternating shift pattern

About the Role

We are recruiting for a Metrology Technician to join a leading advanced manufacturing and engineering business based in Plymouth. This is an excellent opportunity to join a company known for its commitment to quality, precision engineering, and continuous improvement. Working within a quality-focused manufacturing environment, you will be responsible for carrying out accurate measurement, calibration, and inspection activities, while supporting quality assurance processes, production requirements, and customer acceptance activities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform accurate measurement and inspection of components, castings, and forgings using manual instruments, CMM equipment, and 3D scanning technology.
  • Generate measurement reports and maintain traceability of samples, inspection records, and quality documentation.
  • Conduct material integrity testing including ultrasonic inspection and hardness testing using Rockwell, Brinell, Vickers, and Leeb methods.
  • Calibrate, maintain, and manage gauges and measuring equipment, liaising with external calibration providers when required.
  • Provide support for quality assurance activities and cover Customer Acceptance Line (CAL) duties during periods of absence, holiday, or increased workload.

About You

Essential:

  • Previous experience in metrology, quality inspection, calibration, or a similar engineering environment.
  • Experience using precision measuring equipment, gauges, and inspection tools.
  • Ability to accurately interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and quality standards.
  • Good attention to detail with strong organisational and record-keeping skills.

Desirable:

  • Experience with CMM programming, Opticline systems, or 3D scanning equipment.
  • Knowledge of ultrasonic testing, hardness testing, or metallurgical preparation techniques.
  • Experience working within aerospace, automotive, defence, or other precision engineering sectors.
