You will support a team to deliver person‑centred interventions for children and young people experiencing mild to moderate mental‑health difficulties, improving their emotional health and building resilience. This will include (F2F & virtual) individual, group work and peer support. The role reports to the Head of Service/Service Lead at Be U Swindon, with managerial and clinical supervision provided. It is varied, challenging, and rewarding, as you work as part of a diverse clinical team that co‑produces, delivers, and innovates the service.
Main Duties of the Job
- Provide clinical leadership and day‑to‑day support to the wider team, ensuring children and young people (CYP) receive safe, effective and person‑centred care.
- Triage referrals, carry out comprehensive assessments using a holistic, child‑centred approach, and deliver one‑to‑one and group‑based therapeutic interventions tailored to individual needs.
- Assess and manage risk, develop safety plans, provide safeguarding support for young people presenting with self‑harm or suicidal ideation, and make appropriate referrals or signposting to local services.
- Build strong relationships with partner agencies, maintain accurate and confidential clinical records, contribute to clinical audits and quality assurance activities, deliver professional training, and support peer‑led initiatives for young people.
- Communicate with empathy and compassion, ensuring children and young people feel listened to, respected and actively involved in decisions about their care, while also providing guidance and support to parents and carers where required.

Job Responsibilities
- Support the wider staff team with day‑to‑day risk and clinical support where required.
- Support the service with triaging referrals and assessment of CYP referrals.
- Complete comprehensive assessments using the My Story approach taking into account the child’s individual needs and experience.
- Deliver one‑off or short‑term therapeutic interventions (121 and group) to children and young people, working independently which may, at times, means lone working.
- Provide safeguarding, safety plans, support/signposting for CYP who are showing signs of risk to self; via self‑harm and/or suicidal ideation.
- Develop links to other agencies and services and have a good understanding of local services for signposting, safeguarding and onward referrals.
- Provide detailed and timely record keeping of YP risk and support given to YP.
- Use risk assessments to understand YP level of risk.
- Deliver professional training where required.
- Support with clinical record audits where required.
- Facilitate peer support with and for children and young people.
- Maintain confidential case notes and records in a timely manner ensuring that these are stored securely using the specified case management systems.
- Support/cover other senior practitioners with tasks to support the team where required.

- Be able to communicate and engage with children and young people appropriate to individual needs.

- Confidently liaise with parents of CYP presenting with risk to support minimisation of harm to the YP.

- Able to build strong therapeutic relationships in a short period of time.

Qualifications
Essential
- Professional registration with a recognised National Body (including HCPC, NMC, BACP, BABCP BASW, TRA).
Desirable
- Professional qualification and background in one of the following areas: Counselling Psychologist, Psychotherapists, Mental Health Nurse, Social Worker.
- Qualified/Experience to provide regular clinical supervision to counselling team.
Experience
Essential
- Demonstrate 2 years post‑qualification experience.
- Confident in triage and assessment of CYP, supporting / offering interventions to children and young people presenting mild to moderate risk behaviours.
- Knowledge of safety factors in management of self‑harming behaviours and/or suicidal ideation.
- Knowledge of development in CYP, family development and of transitions.
- Experienced in managing a caseload.
- Ability to recognise and respond to concerns about child protection and safeguarding.
- Ability to make use of supervision.
- Up to date knowledge of CYP emotional wellbeing / early mental health clinical practice and support for parents/carers.
Desirable
- Worked in a service where agreed targets are in place to demonstrate clinical outcomes.
- Experience in quality improvement measures.
- Experience of delivering groups to CYP and parents.
