We are an organisation that places importance and pride on being clinically led and prioritise developing clinical leaders. We are looking for an enthusiastic colleague to join our team working to deliver consultant led, efficient, safe, and patient centred care in Respiratory. We are keen to recruit a Consultant with an interest in TB, asthma, EBUS and/or Bronchiectasis and in particular ILD. We have a developed and mature ILD Pathway, supported with an experienced ILD nursing team, a dedicated ILD pharmacist and bi-weekly MDM meetings in collaboration with Guys and St Thomas Hospital (GSTT). As an organisation we are Tier 2 ready and are looking for an ILD consultant to take this forward. Other interests that complement those of the existing consultants would also be welcome.

The trust is highly regarded for the under and post graduate education it provides and has a state-of-the-art Simulation Suite. Facilities for flexible bronchoscopy and full lung function exist at both acute sites; interventional bronchoscopies and pleural procedures are performed at both sites. We have a tertiary level sleep service and home ventilation service based at Conquest Hospital and excellent thoracic surgery service support based at GSTT.

Main duties of the job:

  • Respiratory Ward cover
  • Outpatient clinics for routine, urgent and suspected lung cancer
  • Advise and guidance to primary care
  • Pleural procedures
  • EBUS, bronch and other Thoracic interventional diagnostic procedures
  • GIM on-call cover

Person Specification:

  • Qualifications & Registration:
    • Essential: MB BS or equivalent, Membership or Fellowship of the Royal College of Physicians, Full Registration with GMC with licence to practice, Name on Specialist Register on date of taking up appointment or to have obtained CCT within 6 months of interview date
    • Desirable: MD or equivalent
  • Training & Experience:
    • Essential: Wide experience in all aspects of General (Internal) Medicine and Respiratory Medicine culminating in the award of CCT in both specialties.
    • Desirable: Ability to develop a subspecialty interest within the field of Respiratory Medicine, which complements those of the current team.
  • Admin & Management:
    • Essential: Evidence of participation in leadership / management, Solid understanding of Clinical Governance and Appraisal
    • Desirable: Management qualifications and / or significant management / leadership experience
  • Audit, Research & Publications:
    • Essential: Thorough understanding of principles of medical audit, Regular completion of audit projects, Understanding of the role of research
    • Desirable: Publication of audit projects, Experience of clinical research culminating in presentation and publication of original studies, review articles, etc., relevant to speciality, Ability to lead clinical research project
  • Personal Skills & Attributes:
    • Essential: Effective communicator, able to work and lead a multi-disciplinary team, Leadership qualities, Ability to work with colleagues in other specialities to develop local services, Professional attitude towards work, Good record of attendance
    • Desirable: Excellent presentation skills, Demonstration of initiated projects
  • Teaching:
    • Essential: Experience in teaching medical students, nursing staff and other professional groups
