Applications are invited for this post, which will provide training in all aspects of spinal surgery including adult, paediatric, spinal sarcoma, deformity and acute disorders as well as providing opportunities for research into spinal disorders. This post is available from August 2027 for 12 months. Previous experience of Spinal Surgery is essential and applicants must possess part 2 FRCS (or equivalent). The duties of the post will be adjusted to suit the particular experience and training requirements of the successful candidate.
Main duties of the job include:
- Training in all aspects of spinal surgery and opportunities for research in spinal disorders.
- Advanced training in adult and paediatric spinal surgery, including spinal deformity from both an orthopaedic and neurosurgical perspective.
- Spinal Sarcoma training.
- Basic training in orthopaedic spinal surgery with additional sessions for research into spinal disorders.

Person Specification:
- Education and Qualifications: Primary Medical Qualification, Part 2 FRCS (or equivalent), Satisfactory completion of Foundation Training or equivalent, Full GMC (UK) registration at the time of application.
- Clinical Skills and Knowledge: Previous experience of Spinal Surgery, Good history & examination skills, Able to formulate a working diagnosis, Able to order appropriate investigations, Able to manage common medical emergencies, Image interpretation relevant to practice, Knows when to appropriately seek assistance from a senior colleague.
- Management and Administration Experience: Ability to run a service and participate in management process, Committed to share in professional, managerial and teaching responsibilities necessary to fulfil the obligations of the Directorate to the Trust and its workforce, Able to communicate well with patients and colleagues, An understanding of Clinical Governance.
- Desirable: Proven management and administration ability, Understanding of management goals, Experience with audit, Evidence of leadership / project management, Evidence of having implemented change.
- Teaching: Experience of supervising junior staff, Ability to teach clinical skills.
