Senior Sister / Charge Nurse - Ward U2 in Cambourne

We are looking to recruit an inspirational, innovative and dynamic nurse who is ready for the exciting challenge of a Band 7 Senior Sister / Charge Nurse to lead our dedicated Gastroenterology and Intestinal Failure team. The speciality is forward‑thinking and we are the leaders in the care of patients within the specialty. You would be working closely with the Psychologists, Consultants and Nutrition Nurse Specialists in providing a very high standard of care.

Responsibilities

• To lead, develop and co‑ordinate a multidisciplinary team to ensure an optimum level of safe and effective patient care within budgetary resources.
• To assess care needs, to develop, to implement and evaluate programmes of care.
• To be responsible for all aspects of staff management and recruitment in line with HR policy.
• To participate in a full range of shifts, including Trust and Unit bleep holder rotas, ensuring a visible presence in the ward area.
• To be responsible for all aspects of clinical governance and risk management within the ward area.

• Salary: £49,387 to £56,515 a year (pro rata)

Person Specification

Qualifications

• Essential: Current and relevant registration on the NMC Register; evidence of continuous professional development.
• Desirable: Relevant postgraduate qualification; recent attendance on a leadership development programme; educated to degree level; additional clinical qualification; experience in either gastrointestinal/intestinal failure, general surgery, or acute medicine care.

Experience

• Essential: Success in working collaboratively across professions and services; demonstrable understanding of managing change; introduced evidence‑based practice.
• Desirable: Previous experience of ward management.

Knowledge

• Essential: Clinical practice and demonstrable knowledge of developments in nursing policy and practice; good understanding of clinical governance, principles of lifelong learning, workforce planning, recruitment and retention.
• Desirable: Understanding of the Trust clinical governance agenda and how to apply it to practice.

Skills

• Essential: Ability to lead, motivate and empower others; highly developed communication skills; interpersonal skills; computer literacy; ability to prioritise work, meet tight deadlines and work independently; positive and effective team worker.
• Desirable: Negotiation skills; writing and presentation skills; budget management experience.

Additional Requirements

• Essential: Ability to understand and behave at all times, towards patients, visitors and colleagues according to the Trust values of safe, kind, excellent.
