Applications are invited for the post of Locum Consultant in Neurosciences and Trauma Intensive Care Medicine with Anaesthesia, based at Addenbrooke's Hospital, part of Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. This post is available as soon as possible for a period of 12 months.
Main duties of the job:
- The successful applicant will join a team of consultants providing 24/7 cover to NCCU.
- Successful candidates will be leading the care provided by the multidisciplinary team within NCCU to victims of major trauma and to patients with complex neurosurgical and neurological disease.
- Anaesthesia sessions are available as part of this post as part of an annualised job plan.
Applicants should be fully registered with the GMC and have a CCT in Intensive Care Medicine or be within six months of award of CCT at the time of interview. Applications are welcomed from those unable to work full time for personal reasons or those wishing to job-share.
The applicant must have demonstrable skills in listening, reading, writing and speaking in English that enable effective communication about medical topics with patients and colleagues, as set out in the GMC's Good Medical Practice (2013). Non-UK applicants must possess the IELTS/OET exam before obtaining a GMC licence to practice.

Addenbrookes Hospital is the Major Trauma Centre for the East of England, serving a population of around 6.4 million people. This thriving, modern teaching hospital is the local hospital for people living in the Cambridge area and is the regional referral centre for a number of specialties, including neurosurgery, cancer surgery, transplantation, plastic surgery, vascular and paediatrics. The successful candidate will join an expanding, innovative, and dynamic 27 bed neurosciences and trauma critical intensive care unit (NCCU). The unit admits over 1500 patients per year primarily following major trauma and also patients from the entire range of neurosciences pathologies in addition to smaller numbers of general critical illnesses.
